About Monica
Growing up, I wanted to be an optometrist, a mechanic, a speech therapist and yes, even Wonder Woman. I guess I knew I wanted to work with people; I just wasn’t sure how it would play out. After deciding the other options weren’t for me, I decided to become a schoolteacher. It was here that I discovered my true passion. I love working with families to help improve communication and make relationships stronger. I was able to do some
of this as a teacher, but I wanted to learn more and help in a different way. Eventually I went back and got my Master’s degree in Couples and Family therapy and am working on becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist.
Growing up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and moving to Colorado gave me a new perspective on what it was like to move to a new country. I discovered it’s not always easy to fit into a new situation or to start over. This move also gave me a chance to meet new people and broaden my horizons.
I moved to Colorado for graduate school and graduated with a Master’s degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Deaf Education. I worked in Adams 12 and Douglas County School Districts where I worked with students ranging from two to twenty-one years of age.
After starting my own family, I went back to school and earned a Masters degree in Clinical Counseling: with a marriage and family emphasis. Both degrees are from the University of Northern Colorado.
In addition to these degrees, I am a National Certified Counselor and am a member in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the American Counseling Association, the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, and Chi Sigma Iota – A Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society.
